"Elk Capitol of the East"

Tourism is increasing in the county, especially the popularity of elk viewing with the largest elk herd east of the Mississippi River.There is an ATV Training Center dedicated to the safety of ATV usage among riders and the Knott County Sportsplex, a sports complex which has indoor basketball courts, outside baseball fields, a soccer field, and a fitness center.

Camp Nathaniel

Since 1932, Scripture Memory Mountain Mission/Camp Nathanael has been a source of life changing memories. During the past 85 years, thousands have participated in the events hosted at our 500 acre campus. Carr Creek Lake

Carr Fork, a tributary of the North Fork of the Kentucky River, is located 8.8 miles below Carr Creek Dam, and is thought to have gotten its name from William Carr, a well-known "Long Hunter" who hunted in the area. Today, the area is a family-friendly escape with plenty of water activities, including boating, fishing and swimming.

Kentucky School of Craft

The Kentucky School of Craft has been part of Hazard Community and Technical College for over ten years. Founded with an identity linked to economic development and traditional Appalachian artistry, The School of Craft is going through a period of rebirth to develop programming that coincides with the needs of today s students. The School of Craft is not only dedicated to educating students about the arts, but to also find new ways technology and creative thinking can create jobs and help students start a career.

Knott County Sportsplex

Knott County Sportsplex is the most modern, state-of-the art multi-sports facility in the state of Kentucky. Located six miles east of Hindman on highway 80. The Sportsplex officially opened on October 12, 2007.

Littcarr Campground

The campground offers 45 sites with electric and water hookups. Amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, laundry facilities and a dump station. For family-friendly entertainment, two playgrounds, a picnic shelter, horseshoe pits, and basketball and shuffleboard courts are also on-site.

Marie Stewart Craft Shop

The Marie Stewart Craft Shop is a unique craft store filled with traditional Appalachian crafts from Eastern Kentucky. The Shop provides a venue to showcase local artisan’s consigned work. The shop is named in memory of Marie Stewart, who attended Hindman Settlement School starting in 1919 and graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1929. Marie carried on the Hindman Settlement School craft tradition by crafting many handmade items during her lifetime.

Mine Made Paradise Adventure Park

This off-road park offers miles of marked, rated and looped trails on 43,000 acres of reclaimed coal land. The property currently has around 100 miles of trails for ATVs and UTVs and about 32 miles for dirt bike. The trails wind through a scenic forest and offer plenty of water crossings and a good mix of easy and technical trails.

Museum of the Mountain Dulcimer

This permanent exhibition of instruments features many dulcimers which are on loan to the Center from local banjo player and historian, George Gibson.
